Serving Our Membership
ACFP is involved in various initiatives supporting and advocating for family medicine and family physicians that help make Alberta the best place to practice comprehensive medicine in Canada.
In April of 1955, the ACFP hosted its first Sectional Meeting in Red Deer, Alberta. The meeting was later renamed the Annual Scientific Assembly, and in 1959 found a permanent home in Banff, Alberta. The ASA has been the ACFP’s flagship conference and has gone many iterations. More recently, in 2018, the ASA was renamed the Family Medicine Summit and attracts upwards of 350+ registrants, mainly from Alberta and across Canada, the is recognized as Alberta’s premier conference for family physicians. The program focuses on offering highly relevant and practical clinical topics, with valuable take-away learning pearls.
The College has had a long history collaborating with our universities to ensure students have every opportunity to understand and explore family medicine as a career.
The ACFP is proud to have a dedicated group of member physicians who have a special interest in providing care for the elderly patient with complex needs.
The ACFP is a proud sponsor of Tools for Practice. Tools for Practice are biweekly articles that summarize medical evidence on a clinical question. Led and coordinated by Dr. G. Michael (Mike) Allan, Associate Professor in the University of Alberta Department of Family Medicine.
