The Power of Your Practice

Strengthening research in family medicine

We aim to support family medicine research in Alberta by:

  • encouraging our members interest in conducting research,
  • promoting their expertise and skills as researchers,
  • communicating how they can contribute as sentinel practices to projects that are well grounded in family medicine, such as CPCSSN, TARRANT flu watch, etc

We believe all our members, regardless of their research skill, have the ability and responsibility to meaningfully contribute to family medicine and primary care research projects being conducted in their practice community.

We support our family medicine researchers and PBRNs through highlighting in-progress research projects that are well-grounded in family medicine practice, and have demonstrated substantial input from family physicians at the earliest stages of the research project development.

Project Title: Family Physicians’ Perspectives on Pregnancy Care

End Date: January 31, 2024

Website/Link: https://forms.gle/dvUwZ7FoboxrQ6NR8

You are invited to share your perspectives on pregnancy care!

Many family physicians provide pregnancy care until 20 weeks gestational age and make a decision around where patients receive the remainder of their pregnancy and intrapartum care. We hope to understand how physician-patient interactions result in the broader referral trends observed and improve the experience for physicians and patients. Participation involves a 45 minute Zoom interview scheduled at your convenience.

We hope you’ll participate if you:

  • practice in the Edmonton metropolitan area
  • are a family physician in community practice, family physician preceptor, or first year family medicine resident
  • do not provide labour and delivery care

Please complete this form or contact ahadley@ualberta.ca if you’re interested in learning more or participating.

The study is led by family physician Dr. Sanja Kostov. It has received ethics approval from the University of Alberta (Pro00126836).

Are you interested in shared care planning with complex patients?

One: carepath is a provincial research study that takes a proactive and co-managed approach to care planning and symptom management with patients who have advanced COPD, heart failure, cirrhosis, kidney disease, and stage 3 or 4 solid organ cancer to enable informational, relational, and management continuity among all those involved, and reduce hospital admissions and emergency department visits.

We are looking to partner with primary care physicians & clinic teams who use MedAccess, PS Suite, Healthquest, or Accuro EMRs to care plan with up to 10 complex patients over an 18-month period to care plan with up to 10 complex patients over an 18-month period. There are funds to support this work and participation in this project can be used as part of the PPIP-CPSA QI requirements.
