Annual Meeting of Members

The Alberta College of Family Physicians (ACFP) 2023 Annual Meeting of Members (AMM) was held at the Family Medicine Summit in Banff on March 4, 2023, with participants joining both in person and virtual for the first time ever. The AMM exceeded quorum requirements with 95 total voting members in attendance.  The College of Family Physicians of Canada’s (CFPC) President, Dr. Christie Newton and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Lawrence Loh extended greetings to ACFP membership.

Highlights From 2022 and Looking Ahead To 2023

The meeting started with the President’s report and the official release of the 2022 Year in Review and the new Strategic Framework for 2023. Members were able to vote electronically on the 2022 Audited Financial Statements, the 2023 Board Slate, and a few minor updates to the ACFP Bylaws. The 2023 Budget Plan was presented for members’ information and the Board announced that ACFP Chapter membership fees will not increase for the July 2023 – July 2024 membership renewal cycle.

Welcoming a New Board Member

Members approved Dr. Simon Colgan to fill the vacancy on the Board. Dr. Colgan is a full-time palliative care physician working in Calgary who is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology, University of Calgary, and a member of the O’Brien Institute. Dr. Colgan founded CAMPP (Community Allied Mobile Partnership) in 2016, – a low threshold, harm reduction focused, mobile palliative program aimed at structurally vulnerable persons experiencing homelessness. Dr. Colgan was awarded Leadership of the portfolio on Wealth & Health; Space & Place – a part of a new endeavor to Reimagine Undergraduate Medical Education (RIME) at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine.

Following the greetings, Dr. Noel DaCunha was inaugurated as ACFP President with Dr. Sudha Koppula becoming the Past President.
